CAILBA Membership Guidelines


  1. Membership applications, with the appropriate membership fee, must be submitted to the CAILBA Office. The acceptance of any individual as a member in any category may be subject to review and approval by the Board of Directors of the Association.

  2. Membership in the Association is open only to established licensed life brokerage agencies, which represent not fewer than three insurance companies in the sale of life and health insurance, primarily through life insurance agents or brokers.

  3. Independent MGA - An established Independent licensed life brokerage agency selling life and health insurance, primarily through life insurance agents or brokers. Members are subject to pay all dues and assessments.

  4. Corporate MGA - An established licensed life brokerage agency selling life and health insurance, primarily through life insurance agents or brokers. Members are subject to pay all dues and assessments.

  5. Industry Supplier (Life Insurance Company/Supplier) - A Life Insurance Company or Supplier to the industry shall be eligible for Industry Supplier membership. Members are subject to pay all dues and assessments.

  6. Only Independent MGA members of the Association shall have the right to vote on Association business at any annual or special meeting of the Association.

  7. For the purpose of these guidelines, an agency will not be deemed to be independent if it is owned or controlled, directly or indirectly, or under common control with or by a company in the business of underwriting life or health insurance.

  8. Member agencies and their principals must be in good standing with all regulatory bodies.

  9. Resignation of Membership - It is the responsibility of a member to notify the CAILBA Office in writing within fifteen (15) days, of any change in eligibility for any category of membership. The President shall, within fifteen (15) days of receipt of such notification, review the status of that member and consider any adjustment required in the member's position or dues within the Association and any appropriate adjustment in membership fees. The CAILBA Office will advise the member of the results of such a review, and will submit recommendations to the Board of Directors without undue delay.

  10. Rescission of Membership - The Board of Directors may, by a three-fourths (3/4) vote, rescind any membership for acts or omissions deemed by the Board not to be in the best interests of the Association. Any member facing rescission of membership shall be given thirty (30) days notice of any meeting at which such rescission is to be considered, and such notice shall state the grounds for rescission. The member shall have an opportunity to state his defense, with or without Counsel, either written or orally, in person.

  11. Any dues or fees payable by members shall be fixed by a majority vote of the Board of Directors from time to time.
