Regulatory Affairs
A popular point of concern with our members is regulation. The agent and managing general agencies work in a constantly evolving environment. Therefore it is important for CAILBA to keep abreast of relevant regulatory issues and news topics and to communicate that information back to all Members.
The Regulatory Affairs committee, under Casey Brandreth’s leadership, was unquestionably the most active in 2010, with assistance from Executive Director, Bob Ferguson and other Board Members, in response to CCIR’s information request about the MGA distribution channel; CAILBA attended and met with provincial insurance regulators at the CCIR conference in Quebec City; CAILBA led an industry associations’ working group comprised of Advocis, IFB and CLHIA in the development of not only CAILBA’s response to CCIR but in assisting with the response of Advocis, IFB and CLHIA. CCIR’s position paper on the MGA distribution channel was released in February 2011; CAILBA’s response appears as an appendix to that document.
We believe it is critical that our Regulators understand who MGAs are and what we do; to that end we believe CAILBA’s contribution to the CCIR initiative has been successful. This committee is currently working closely with industry regulatory bodies. If you are interested in regulatory issues, please contact our Regulatory Affairs chair, Casey Brandreth at casey@daystar-financial.com.
